1. Ras Nungwi Beach, Zanzibar, Tanzania
Isn't Mt Kilimanjaro the highest mountain in Africa in Tanzania? Yes it is, and so are some of the most beautiful beaches. the Zanzibar archipelago is a cluster of islands off the coast of Tanzania that happen to sit in the perfection of the Azul coloured Indian Ocean.
2. Whitehaven Beach, Whitsunday Islands, Australia
Whitehaven is a bucket list beach for everyone. It was awarded Queensland's Cleanest Beach in Keep Australia Beautiful's 2008 Clean Beach Challenge State Awards and in July 2010, it was named the top Eco Friendly Beach in the world by CNN.com. Dogs are not permitted on the beach and cigarette smoking is prohibited.
Whitehaven Beach is known for its white sands. The sand consists of 98% pure silica which gives it a bright white colour. Unlike regular sand, the sand on Whitehaven Beach does not retain heat making it comfortable to walk barefoot on a hot day.
3. Cayo de Agua, Los Roques National Park, Venezuela
Carribean perfection. Venezuela might not be considered a travel destination by North American standards, but for South Americans Venezuela is the place to go, and for good reason.
4. Ngapali Beach, Myanmar
Want to really get away from it all? Then head north away from the insanity of the Thai beaches to Myanmar. Myanmar seems to be a forgotten land in an otherwise tourist rich part of the world. Bordering western Thailand, Myanmar shares the same coastline as some Thailand's top western beach destinations such as Phuket, so next time your thinking of heading to Asia, you might want to consider putting Myanmar at the top of your list.
5. Florianopolis, Brazil
Florianopolis is a island off the 8000 km long coast of Brazil. Why go here? Well for starters there are 42 beaches on the island, not to mention you can spend a whole day on what seems like a forgotten beach, then drive 30 minutes to the city of 1 million residents (Florianopolis) and party like you never have before. "Floripa" as Brazilians call it has it all, secluded beaches, world class surfing, an inland viscous lake perfect for wake boarding, and a city that pumps all night every night.
